Each week I share books I’m reading for my Read 100 Challenge, as well as podcasts I’m listening to and links I love from around the blogosphere. I love to get recommendations, so please let me know what you are reading!
Books I’m Reading
Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist
I am so glad that I was able to finish Bread and Wine this week. Niequist’s collection of essays and recipes center on the theme of life around the table. After reading it, I want to invite my friends over for a good meal and good conversation–preferably with recipes from the book! I was especially inspired by the love she and her friends are able to share, give, and receive that has been sealed and renewed through their meals together. Niequist writes from a Christian (though not Orthodox) perspective with some thought-provoking insights into the true nature of friendship.
Following a Sacred Path: Raising Godly Children by Elizabeth White
Our priest asked each family in our church to read Elizabeth White’s book in preparation for monthly discussions on faith and parenting. White has been a Montessori teacher and a supervisor for her church’s Sunday school program. She brings a discovery-based, Montessori-style approach to the topic of child-rearing that I found quite intriguing. I will write a complete review of the book when I finish it. Look for it in a couple of weeks!
Sunny Side Up by Jennifer L. Holm
If you are looking for a book to tempt your upper elementary/ middle school aged child, look no further! Sunny Side Up is a funny, endearing graphic novel for children ages 10-14. I feel a bit embarrassed to say that this is my first Jennifer L. Holm book (she’s written MANY and has won several awards, including the Newbury Honor), and I am definitely adding more of her novels to my classroom library.

I finally finished Few Eggs and No Oranges by Vere Hodgson. It was excellent but at 590 pages, it was a bit long!
A Pattern of Lies by Charles Todd is quite enjoyable. It is set in England and France during the closing months of WW I.
JMM and I are still reading through Deep South by Paul Theroux. It is getting better as we get into it.
