Each week I share books I’m reading for my Read 100 Challenge, as well as podcasts I’m listening to and links I love from around the blogosphere. I love to get recommendations, so please let me know what you are reading!
Books I’m Reading
The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp
Tharp’s book has been recommend by so many bloggers that I’ve lost count. I wasn’t disappointed. Tharp, a famous and successful choreographer, describes the habits that help boost and ensure creativity. She argues that creativity takes a lot of hard work, discipline, and consistency. The book also contains fascinating examples of the creative habits of the famous, practical exercises, and interesting accounts of her own life and career. If you are a writer, artist, dancer, entrepreneur, or more, you will find something of interest and value in Tharp’s book.
Money Making Mom by Crystal Paine
I am so excited and honored to be reading a pre-release copy of Crystal Paine’s newest book! I have enjoyed both of her previous books (you can see my full review of Say Goodbye to Survival Mode), but this one is my favorite. It will appeal to single moms trying to earn some extra money to stay afloat, or to stay at home moms wanting to contribute to their family’s financial goals, or to work outside the home moms who want to harness their passion into a business. Look for a complete review in a couple of weeks! Also, if you pre-order the book (before November 3), you can get some amazing freebies! Once you order, go HERE to claim yours.
The Wreckers by Iain Lawrence
I’m in the process of reading a bunch of scary, middle-school appropriate books right now that I can recommend to my students. Middle schoolers are intrigued, you might even say obsessed, with the frightening and grotesque. I am enjoying Lawrence’s The Wreckers and its balance of suspense and thrill without being overly graphic or bloody. A good read for grades 6-8.

I’m thinking about reading another Erik Larson, Florence. I learned a ton from and really enjoyed Dead Wake. What would you recommend for my next Larson? I was thinking of the one about the Galveston hurricane of 1900.
Florence says
Yes, definitely the one about the 1900 storm in Galveston. It is excellent. Did you know that I am a native Galvestonian? My husband, daughter, and I were all born on the island.
Sarah says
How fun! I grew up in Texas (near Waco), and we spent many vacations on Galveston.
