Each week I share the books I am reading for my Read 100 Challenge and the links I love from around the blogging world.
Books I’m Reading
Popular: Vintage Wisdom for a Modern Geek by Maya Van Wagenen
Written by a fifteen-year-old, this nonfiction book tells the story of Maya’s eighth grade year. During that school year, she decided to follow the advice of a 1950s book on how to become popular. Maya focused on one chapter a month, implementing whatever the book said–no matter how out-of-date (twinset and pearls, anyone?). Fun, funny, and insightful, Popular was such a great read!
100 Days of Real Food by Lisa Leake
I read this book based on a recommendation from Anne at Modern Mrs. Darcy–and she’s never steered me wrong. I have been thinking more and more about the food that I am feeding my children, and I am considering making a change. This book helped me feel that it was very possible to feed my family, real (unprocessed), healthy, organic food. It isn’t a book filled with lots of facts and research (although there is some), but is instead a practical guide that includes 100 great recipes. If you’ve ever considered changing your diet to a more natural one, you should definitely check it out.
Much Ado About Anne by Heather Vogel Frederick
This is the second book in The Mother-Daughter Book Club by Heather Vogel Frederick. The four girls (Emma, Jess, Cassidy, and Megan) are now in 7th grade. Their mothers have a couple of surprises for them as they begin their book club in the fall: they will be reading Anne of Green Gables and their archenemy Becca Chadwick and her mother will be joining them. Over the course of the year the girls work on a fashion show to save Jess’s family farm, grow used to the idea of Cassidy’s mother dating again after the death of her husband, and try to get along with the queen bee Becca. These books are very sweet and would make excellent mother-daughter reading!
